Status of the WDCC

The Western Drought Coordination Council ended its second year in spring 1999 with an agreement to go on hiatus for at least one year, depending on drought in the West and on the work of the National Drought Policy Commission.

Western Governors' Association: The WGA helped muster the political will to create the council in the wake of the drought of 1996 in the Southwestern United States. The WGA issued a report on the Drought of '96 that is available in draft form on the web (scroll down to "Public Lands and Water," where the report is in five sections) or in final form from the WGA (please call 303-623-9378 to request a copy).

National Drought Mitigation Center: The NDMC provided technical and scientific support to the Council, and hosts and maintains its web site.
