2014 Community Capitals Framework Institute to include focus on water and drought

Jul 23, 2014

The Community Capitals Framework

This year’s Community Capitals Framework Institute, Nov. 5-7 in Lincoln, Nebraska, will focus on issues related to water management, drought planning, evaluation, and rural and community development. Registration is open, and the organizers are now accepting abstracts from people who would like to present their experiences for discussion.

Abstracts should be 250 words or less, describing a case study or application of the community capitals approach to development, either in this country or abroad. Please submit your abstract as soon as possible, and no later than Sept. 5, so that sessions and speakers can be organized. Email abstracts to Kurt Mantonya, kmantonya@haeartlandcenter.info

For those who are new to the community capitals approach, attending the institute is a good way to learn more about the methodology and connect with others who have used it in a variety of settings, including urban and rural areas in this country, and rural development projects abroad.

Cornelia and Jan Flora, emeritus faculty at Iowa State University, will be the keynote speakers. The Floras, co-creators of the community capitals framework, are actively involved in global community issues related to climate change.

Organizers of the Institute are the Heartland Center for Leadership Development, the National Drought Mitigation Center at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and the National Integrated Drought Information System.

The Institute will be at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, starting at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 5, and ending at noon Friday, Nov. 7. The registration fee of $150, or $75 for students, includes activities and materials, a networking reception, breaks, and lunch on Thursday. Register online: http://go.unl.edu/ccfregistration
