National Drought Mitigation Center

Winter edition of DroughtScape released

February 21, 2018

We’ve just released the latest edition of DroughtScape. In the fourth quarter of 2017, we saw drought recede from the northern Great Plains and encroach on the South. Texas and Colorado had little rain during the fall, leading to water shortages and dry grass. Also released this edition are our year-in-review stories, focusing on the climate record and on the impacts to people and places.

Other stories this quarter include:

·         Drought and water crisis book updated

·         U.S. Drought Monitor available in Spanish

·         Study shows cities step up when drought occurs

·         New staff at the NDMC

·         Drought Summit in photos
