Franklin, Tennessee, August 27, 2007. With less than a tenth of an inch of rain so far this month, and more than 14 days with high temperatures at or above 100°F, water in retention ponds has been decreasing to record levels. This one is nearly dry. Water restrictions are currently in effect.

This foundation rests about a half-mile southeast of the main townsite. This is in the lake bed, about 100 yards from the lake's eastern dike, which comes into view about halfway up the right side of this photo. The establishment of many grasses indicates that this area has been exposed for quite a while. Taken Feb 28th, 2004.

The lake's most recent decline has exposed the remains of the Lugert school building. Two stories of school space sat atop the cellar, which was built by the WPA in 1938. This foundation held Lugert's future on its shoulders for just a few years before disappearing under the waters of Lake Lugert-Altus. Taken Feb 28th, 2004.

Tinder-dry, extreme drought conditions in central California on September 3, 2007, fuel a fast-moving wildfire burning 1,200 acres in 8 hours, 4,000 acres in 24 hours, and 10,000 acres by the second day, south of San Jose. The building in the foreground is part of Silicon Valley off Highway 237. As of September 7, the fire has burned 27,640 acres and is 35% contained. Costs to date are estimated at $3.3 million.
