The Drought-Smart Indigenous Agriculture Project held its third workshop on May 9, 2024. The half-day session focused on soil health, reading soil test lab results, and projects to improve soil health with a specific focus on drought resilience. The National Drought Mitigation Center (NDMC) and the Santa Ana Pueblo facilitated the workshop, which consisted of three sessions with presenters from USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), New Mexico Department of Agriculture (NMDA), and Intertribal Agriculture Council (IAC). Approximately 45 individuals involved in Pueblo agriculture and natural resource management attended the workshop at the Santa Ana Pueblo Wellness Center. Several pueblos were represented among attendees (Santa Ana Pueblo, Zia Pueblo, and Jemez Pueblo).
