El mapa nacional y la narración del Monitor de Sequía (US Drought Monitor) ahora están disponibles también en español. De este modo, y de acuerdo con los esfuerzos del US Department of Agriculture, intentamos ser más inclusivos con la población que recibe menos servicios, incluyendo a los agricultores hispanohablantes.
La versión en español del mapa y de la narración ahora están disponibles en la página web del Monitor de Sequías. En el futuro - según afirma Brian Fuchs, el coordinador del monitoreo en el National Drought Mitigation Center basado en University of Nebraska - estas serán convertidas en uno de los aspectos centrales de la página web española del Monitor de Sequías, la cual, además, incluirá mapas de sequía para cada región del USDMA Climate Hub traducidas al español.
Después de recibir respuestas positivas de las agencias que sirven a la población hispanohablante, como el National Weather Service, USDA y sus Climate Hubs y los climatólogos en distintos estados, el centro de sequías y el departamento de agricultura decidieron expandir sus servicios en español más allá de los mapas (que tuvimos desde inicio). El NDMC hospeda la página web del Monitor de Sequías y todos los datos e informaciones relacionados con éste.
Las versiones en español de los mapas del Monitor de Sequía son financiadas a través del contrato con la Oficina del Director de la Economía de U.S. Department of Agriculture.

The US Drought Monitor national map and narrative are now available in Spanish, in keeping with the US Department of Agriculture’s effort to better engage underserved populations, including Spanish-speaking agricultural producers.
Spanish-language versions of the national map and narrative are now being posted to a page on the drought monitor website. They will eventually be the centerpiece of a Spanish-language drought monitor website, which will also include translated drought monitor maps for each of the USDA Climate Hub regions, said Brian Fuchs, monitoring coordinator at the National Drought Mitigation Center, based at University of Nebraska.
After favorable response from agencies serving Spanish-speaking populations, including the National Weather Service, USDA and its Climate Hubs, and state climatologists, the drought center and the department of agriculture decided to expand the Spanish-language offerings beyond the initial maps. The NDMC hosts the drought monitor website and associated data and information.
Spanish-language drought monitor maps are funded through a contract with the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Office of the Chief Economist.
